Asbestos
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was commonly used in building materials. Due to its great fire retardant qualities, asbestos was extensively used in various building materials for many years, before it was banned in the late 1970s due to its carcinogenic properties. When asbestos fibers are inhaled, they can cause lung cancer, mesothelioma, and other respiratory illnesses.

The only way to know for sure if a property contains asbestos is to have it tested by a professional asbestos testing company. Samples of the suspect materials will be collected and analyzed in a laboratory.
-
The cost of an asbestos inspection is comprised of three components; the inspection fee, sample costs, and DEP filing fee (If property is located in New York City).
